TAYLORSVILLE-- Elsie H. Barker, age 91, widow of Abram Barker, died August 15, 1992, of causes incident to age.
She was born February 1, 1901 in Taylorsville, a daughter of Henry Harker and Minnie Bennion. She lived her entire life in Taylorsville. Married Abram Barker, June 21, 1922 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Active member of the LDS Church, where she served for many years as Secretary of Sunday School. Devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Enjoyed home, family and friends to the fullest. Wonderful cook and excellent seamstress. Elsie spent many summers during her early life on the family ranch in Cokeville, Wyoming, where she learned to ride horses and developed a great love for the outdoors. She was an excellent swimmer and enjoyed the game of bowling. She loved all sports, especially watching basketball and football on TV.
She is survived by her son, Vaughn and wife, Betty Jean, Taylorsville; a daughter, Mrs. Rod (Dora) Kamalu, Tucson, Arizona; 16 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, two brothers: Howard and wife, Melba, Copperton; Kenneth and wife, Rae, St. George; two sisters in law: Mrs. Clyde (Hilma) Barker, Taylorsville; Mrs. Joe (Bertha) Harker, Copperton; brother in law, Charles Stump, Richmond, California. Preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, and two sisters.
Funeral services will be Monday, 12 noon at Taylorsville Stake Center, 1400 West 4800 South. Friends may call Sunday 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Golden Rule Funeral Home, 4330 So. Redwood Rd. and Monday 11-11:40 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute to Community Nursing Service-Hospice, 1370 So. West Temple, S.L.C., Utah 84115. Interment, Taylorsville Memorial Gardens.
