She worked for Nevels Manufacturing and later Nazarene Publishing House.
Lela was a Christian and loved gospel music. She was a member of Harmony Heights Missionary Baptist Church.
She was a loving mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles I. Decker, an infant daughter, Frances Bell Decker, her second husband, John C. Bunten, two sisters, Mildred Boss and Pauline Dixon, and four brothers, J.D. Ballew, D.B. Ballew, David Ballew and William Ballew.
Her survivors include a daughter, Veva Alter and husband, Richard, of Independence, MO; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Barker of Independence, MO; and Helen Misel of Bonner Springs, KS; one brother, Ralph Ballew and wife, Marylin of Kansas City, MO; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are May 24, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel, Independence. Burial in Cowgill Cemetery.
