Kendall "Ken" R. Roberts was born in Nicollet County on July 29, 1926 to Luther and Elteen (Thurston) Roberts. Ken attended school in Judson, MN and graduated from Nicollet High School in 1945. Ken was an avid outdoorsman and, as a young man, loved to go fishing. It was after returning to his sister's home from a fishing excursion, where he met Marion Faulkner, the catch of his lifetime. Ken and Marion were married on April 9, 1949 on Marion's family farm in Madelia. After their marriage, they lived in Judson, MN for one year before moving to Butternut Township in 1950. It was on the family farm that the couple raised their four children and made their home for the remainder of their lives.
Ken raised livestock and farmed crops all of his working life and enjoyed showing hogs at swine shows as a hobby in the 1960-1970's. He was involved in 4H with his children for many years and often went with them to show livestock at the county and state fairs. He loved wildlife and enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and pheasant hunting. He also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds near his home in the wintertime. Ken will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marion Roberts; children, Pat Etter, Steve (Marvel) Roberts, Pamela (Roger) Barnlund, David (Alice) Roberts; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Merwin Roberts; sister-in-law, Charlotte (Mervin) Roberts, and brother-in-law, Darrel (Karen) Faulkner. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, Lauretta Neal, Elanor Faulkner, Margelet Allen; brothers, Emrys and John Roberts; sons-in-law, John Etter, Douglas Johnson, and grandson, Craig Roberts.
