Lois Mae Callahan, 91, of South Sioux City died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael Catholic Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Daniel Wittrock officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will resume 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Callahan was born April 17, 1912, in Luverne, Minn., the daughter of Jack and Vera (O'Brian-Gleason) Guthrie. She grew up in Elk Point, S.D. and graduated from Elk Point High School.

She married Donald Sherman Callahan at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elk Point. The couple lived in Elk Point until 1959, when they moved to South Sioux City. They owned and operated Callahan Liquor Store from 1959 to 1987. He died Dec. 16, 2000, in South Sioux City.

She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Colleen and her husband, Ted Saltzman of Dakota Dunes, S.D., and Michaelle Keenan of South Sioux City; five grandchildren, Sundae Haggerty, Shennen Saltzman, Errin Keenan, Sean Keenan and Kourtnee Fries; and six great-grandchildren, Montana and Morgan Haggerty, Claire, Molly and Teddy Saltzman and Gabriella Fries.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Iris Smith.

Pallbearers will be Shennen Saltzman, Shawn Haggerty, Errin Keenan, Sean Keenan and Melvin and Larry Donnelly.
