Jeffrey Scott Levering, 49, died unexpectedly at his home in Stafford, Va. on Oct. 30, 2002. Jeffrey was born Dec. 23, 1952, in Sayre, Pa. the son of George F. and Jane Frisbie Levering.

He graduated from Athens High School in 1970. He attended Lock Haven University before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1973. He spent most of his six years tour of duty in Sicily, Italy where he was a member of a basketball team that won the Armed Forces European Championship. After leaving the Navy, Jeff moved to the Washington D.C. area where he took a position as a computer operations supervisor with the U.S. Customs Department and worked there for the last twenty years. In 1989, he received a degree in Business Administration, graduating Magna cum Laude.

Jeff is survived by his sisters and their spouses, Cynthia Davis of Athens, Pa., Linda and Terry Gowan of Litchfield, Pa., and Judy and Jack Duff of Horsham, Pa.; his brothers, Michael Levering of Charlotte, N.C., Steven Levering of Athens, Pa.; five nephews; ten nieces; three great nephews and two great nieces.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002 at 1 p.m. at the Lowery Funeral Home, 225 South Main St. Athens, Pa. with Capt. Lenny Wacenske, pastor of the Salvation Army Church officiating.
