He was active in the Masonic Lodge and would have soon been a member for 50 years. He was active in the early days in getting a Masonic Lodge started in Draper as the many old members will remember. He also was a life member of the Eastern Star, and in 1912 was appointed deputy grand patron. For many years he served as a member of the school board at Murdo and was county chairman of the Jones County Red cross chapter at the time of his death.
Mr. Bowers is survived by his wife the former Constance Francis, one daughter, Marguerite of Los Angeles, three sons, Philip, of Sheldon, Iowa; Robert of Los Angeles, and Beverly of Seattle. Also surviving are three step-sons, John Francis, Col. William Francis and Charles Francis. One granddaughter and two sisters also survive.
