Alphonso H. Hollis died at sea off the coast of Jacksonville, FL in a voyage from Hamilton, Bda. A sea faring man who probably was a blockade runner during the American Civil War, running supplies to the South from Bermuda and the West Indies. May have also been a Union prisoner for a short period of time. Last vessel was: "Herald of the Morning" which sank in a squall about 4 AM on 09.16.1899 (Source: C.F.E. Hollis Hallett's book "Rosabelle" and N. Y. Times 10.21.1899).

Alphonso Hollis m. Rosabelle Hollis, his second cousin in 1872, witnessed by John Nelson Hollis, his brother. Alphonso was a mariner and Rosabelle a spinster.

His parents: Captain John Hollis & Sarah Augusta Tynes.

His siblings were: Adria Augusta Hollis, Susan Mary Hollis and John Nelson Hollis.
