Fort Bend Herald, October, 25, 2013:

Funeral services for Deacon Odell Jones, 85, of Rosenberg, Texas, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at Nazareth Baptist Church, 500 Elm St., Rosenberg, Texas, with Rev. C. L. Wallace Eulogist. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., with burial in Davis-Greenlawn Cemetery, 3900 BF Terry Blvd.

Mr. Jones passed Oct. 16, 2013.

Final arrangements are entrusted to the care of Gooden Funeral Home, 1716 Avenue E, Rosenberg, Texas 77471. Phone: 281-342-9169.

On September 27, 1928, a baby boy was born to Mr. Eddie and Mrs. Gertrude (McClain) Jones. They named him Odell and he grew up in Round Top, Texas. In 1945, he moved to Rosenberg, Texas.

Deacon Odell Jones worked several different jobs: driving a school bus, construction work, and repairing lawn equipment. Deacon Jones also loved his church. Deacon Jones was baptized at a very early age and after moving to Rosenberg, he joined the Nazareth Baptist Church where he served faithfully until his health failed.

Deacon Jones was married to Thurslee Anderson and to this union nine children were born. On April 28, 1968, Deacon Jones met and married Vierdell Contee.

Deacon Jones is preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Gertrude Jones; and three children, Henry Jones, Johnny Lee Jones, and Eddie Roy Jones.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife of forty-five years, Vierdell; four sons, Odell Jones Jr., Robert Jones, Lawrence Jones, and Dennis Jones; two daughters, Doris Jones and Lillie Mae Jones; two brothers, Clarence Jones and Herbert Jones; one sister, Ethel Stevenson; an adopted sister, Annie Mae Hills; two sisters-in-law, Mary Hart and Kathrine Powell; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
