Lillian Elvira Lund Coburn
August 23, 1920 – April 2, 2015

The loving Matriarch of our family, Lillian Elvira Lund Coburn, 94, passed away on April 2, 2015 due to causes incident to age. Lillian was born on August 23, 1920 in Ogden, Utah to Carl Christian and Petra Miller Lund, the second oldest in a family of nine children. She graduated from Ogden High School and then went on to college, first at Weber College and then at Utah State Agricultural College (USAC) in Logan where she earned her teaching degree. She taught third grade for a year in the small town of Milford, Utah. It was also at USAC where she met and later married her future husband, Richard Karl Coburn. They were married on June 10, 1942 and eventually became the parents of 16 children, 10 through birth and six by adoption.

The first eight children were all born in different states as the family moved for her husband’s schooling and work, and finally settled in Laie, Hawaii in 1958, putting down roots, never to move again. “Why would I want to leave paradise?” she would ask.

While raising the children was always her main priority, Lillian lived a life of compassionate service in her community and her church. Lillian was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and held many positions in various auxiliaries over the years. She enjoyed reading good books, and listening to good music. One of her favorite hobbies was collecting inspiring or uplifting thoughts, and then sharing them with whoever she could. She was also an excellent seamstress and not only sewed for her family, but often helped sew costumes for the CCH/BYU-Hawaii plays, as the campus was directly across the street from their home.

Lillian will always be remembered for her kind and generous heart, her sense of humor, and her straightforwardness in dealing with the challenges of life.

Lillian is survived by one sister, Marian Perrenoud, and 13 of her children: Linda Erickson, Richard (Renee), Carma (Bruce) Bean, Margaret Nozawa, John, Norma (Wayne) Kimokeo, Mark, Douglas (Bonnie Jean), Stephanie Thornton, Anne Marie SunJoo (Chad) Allred, Kenji (Monica), Robert (Monica Kahea), and Peggy Coburn. She also leaves a legacy of 54 grandchildren, 90 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for our loving mother, grandmother, and friend on April 22, 2015 at the Laie 6th Ward chapel, 55-600 Naniloa Loop. Viewing from 10 to 11:00 a.m., services to follow, and burial at 1:00 p.m. at the Laie cemetery.
