Huldah Dort was born June 26, 1856 in Hancock County, Illinois. She married John Dietrich Myers on December 23, 1875 at Carthage, Illinois. They had 13 children. Annetta, Theone and Sam were born in Illinois. They moved to Iowa in 1882. Floyd, Genevieve, Grace, Karl, Dort, Arvy, Waldo, Vernon, Alice and Wayne were all born in Iowa. They came to North Dakota in 1902, first to Underwood and that fall moved to the homestead at Blackwater. They lived in a sod house for several years and also had a sod barn. They hand dug a well and discovered a vein of coal. They later mined coal and sold it for $1.60 a Ton. Any lumber that was used had to be hauled from Coleharbor which was 53 miles away, by team and wagon. Houses only had one thickness of boards so it took a lot of coal to heat them. In 1907, they moved to Charlie Myers homestead, brother of John. Charlie died in 1907 and was buried in the cemetery southwest of Emmet. In 1912, Huldah took her daughter, Alice, to Washington, D.C. and spent the winter with Theone. She returned the next spring but left Alice with Theone so she could go to school. On March 26, 1917, Huldah passed away at the Milde homestead. She and John were buried at the cemetery southwest of Emmet.
