Bernard J. Harmeyer, 71, died Monday, May 29, of injuries sustained in an auto accident. Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, June 3, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Des Moines. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Des Moines.

Bernard was born June 1, 1934, the son of Leo G. and Martha C. Harmeyer in Lacona, Iowa. He was a graduate of Dowling High School.

Bernard was President of Harmeyer Construction, a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the retired Des Moines Firefighter's Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife and mother of his children, Karmen C. (Rodine) Harmeyer; his second wife Beatrice M. (Gear) Harmeyer; and his brother John R. Harmeyer.

Survivors include his children: Patricia Harmeyer, Mary C. Knight, Christina Free, Bernie C. Harmeyer, Michael Harmeyer, Brenda Abbott, Margaret Giles, James Harmeyer, 17 Grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Ohnemus of Elk Grove, CA and brother Richard Harmeyer of Des Moines.

His family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m., Friday, June 2, at Iles Grandview Park Funeral Home. A Vigil Service will begin at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to On With Life in Ankeny or St. Joseph's Catholic Church Building Fund.
