Steven Wayne Lawson, 64, of Waterloo, died Saturday, April 11, at home after a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born September 23, 1950, in Iowa Falls, the son of Wayne Oliver and Irene Elizabeth Roegner Lawson. He married Mary Tuve on July 15, 1972, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and they later divorced.

Steven served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was employed as an inspector at John Deere for 36 years, retiring in 2012. He was a member of the Waterloo Masonic Lodge #105 A.F. & A.M., the El Kahir Shrine Temple, the American Legion Post 730 and VFW Post 3869, U.A.W. Local 838, and Vietnam Vets of America.

Survivors include two sons, Matthew (Kylie) Lawson of Kansas City, Kan, Michael (Rachel) Lawson of Colorado Springs, Colo; three grandchildren, Pershing Lawson, Lucy Lawson, and Ella Lawson; a brother, Jeff (Louise) Lawson of Hudson; Friend and partner, Mary Lawson of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Services 10:30 A.M. Saturday, April 18, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with inurnment Tuesday at the Alden Cemetery, Alden. Full military rites will be conducted at the church by the Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and Evansdale Amvets Post 31 along with the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation from 4-7 P.M. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 7 P.M. public Masonic Service by Waterloo Lodge #105 A.F. & A.M., Visitation also one hour prior to services at the church.

A Memorial motorcycle ride will take place on Sunday starting at Steve’s house at 12:30 P.M.
