BRIDGEWATER – Donna Lee (Shaver) Norvell, 68, of Bridgewater, passed away Monday, April 13, 2015, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

Donna had a zeal for life, was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and a friend to many. She found love in gardening, traveling, taking pictures, and reading to her grandchildren. She always stopped to enjoy the view.

She was born in Charlottesville, April 7, 1947, and was a daughter of the late Hubert Leon and Mary Ann (Petresh) Shaver.

Donna worked as a reading specialist at Waterman Elementary School. She received her Master's in Reading from James Madison University. She was a member of the Sangerville Church of the Brethren.

She was united in marriage on May 14, 1977 to Robert Earl Norvell, of Bridgewater.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Emily Blair Henry and husband, Michael, of Ruckersville, and Carrie Elizabeth Wallace and husband, Trevor, of Churchville; a son, Jonathan Sterling Atkins and wife, Karris, of Harrisonburg; a sister, Janet Shaver Weeks and husband, Mike, of Poplar Forest. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Hattie Elizabeth Henry, Nora Kate Wallace, Grayson Michael Henry, Fisher Haig Wallace, Asher Henry, and Clark Conrad Atkins; and special cousin, Patti Estes, and special friend, Dawn Strumsky and husband, John.

A memorial service will be at Sangerville Church of the Brethren at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015, with the Rev. Kevin Daggett and James Flora officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Mount Solon Fire and Rescue, 86 Emmanuel Church Rd., Mt. Solon, VA 22843 or you may plant a tree, shrub or take a day to volunteer at a local elementary school in her memory.
