BORN
24 June 1832 Clontyclay near Clonmore, Killyman Parish, Co Armagh, Northern Ireland.
Son of Patrick FOX (c1805-Sep 1839) a bricklayer and Fanny (Euphemia) McELINDEN/McALINDON (c1810-27 May 1840 Derryhubert).
Fanny was murdered by persons unknown. Her husband, Pat, had died the previous year (Homicides in Pre-famine and Famine Ireland p 112, by Richard McMahon). Their three children- Catherine, Bernard and John probably lived with relatives in Clonmore, before entering the workhouse.

Barney and Eliza's grave site is unlisted and has no monument. I was told by Mercia FOX their grave was in the first row Catholic North (facing Kenny Street) but she could not remember where. Their granddaughter, Kathleen FOX a newborn baby, died just seven years after Barney. She may have been buried in their grave. Her grave is recorded as Roman Catholic North; Row 1; Grave 8.
FOX Ave at the rear of Wollongong Cemetery is named in Barney's honour. The Swan Street Cemetery was know to locals as "Old Barney's field" or "Barney Fox's".
