Ruth Faye Howell Johnson, 92, died Aug. 2, 2006, at Landmark Assisted Living in Booneville. She was born Sept. 5, 1914, in Red Bay, Ala., to the late John Archie and Carrie Bell Walton Howell. She was a former resident of the Fairview community and a homemaker most of her life. She worked for her son, Dr. Charles Johnson, as his receptionist for many years and is remembered fondly by many patients for the kindness and compassion she showed them. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Booneville and a longtime member of the Salem Baptist Church in Itawamba County. She was a teacher of the Fidelis Ladies Sunday School Class at each church for many years.

Services were Aug. 5 at Salem Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Dr. Charles Johnson and wife, Martha, and Dr. Dwight Johnson and wife, Brenda, all of Booneville; grandchildren, Dr. Catherine Mincy and husband, Jeff, of Booneville, Carrie Cobb and husband, Jimmy, of Houston, Texas, Charles Johnson Jr. of Washington D.C., Jennifer Greene and husband, Eric, of Atlanta, Ga., and Christopher Johnson and wife, Candice, of Saltillo; three great-grandchildren, Meridith and Leslie Kate Mincy, and John Charles Cobb; two sisters, Earline Graham of Florence, Ala., and Linda Pitts of Saltillo.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Alvia Johnson; her parents; three sisters, Pearl Clark, Mildred Waddle and Bernice Graham; and five brothers, James, Lee, John Jr., Fred and George Howell.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today. The body will lie in state at the church from 11 a.m. to service time Saturday.
