Bernice Wood was born June 5, 1918, to Frank and Beulah Britton in Bicknell, Ind.. She graduated from Winslow High School in 1936, and attended Indiana University for one year, and Oakland City College, receiving a lifetime teacher's certificate, and taught one year at Arthur, Ind., before getting married.
She married Adron Wood April 14, 1940, in French Lick, Ind. Bernice taught in Clinton Township Fairview School, Shelburn schools and third grade in the Sullivan Southwest School District until her retirement in 1978. She earned a master's degree from Indiana State University.
She was a member of Sullivan First Christian Church. Indiana Retired Teachers Association.
Bernice loved to cook and Sunday family dinners were always a blessing. She learned at age 80 that she could write clever and humorous poetry and the family compiled them into a book for her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Adron Wood, in 2009; and a sister, Erma Hale.
