Obituary for Nona May Solders (Monona May Wilson)

PAYETTE, IDAHO- Nona May Solders, 91, died June 7, 1996, in an Ontario, Oregon care center. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Rosedale Memorial Gardens, Payette with Bishop Frazer Peterson, Payette Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, First Ward, conducting under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette.

She was born July 8, 1904, at Marengo, Iowa, the eldest child of William Thomas Wilson and Winifred May Cutright. Nona came west with her parents and sister Neva in about 1907. They lived in Sunnyside, Washington for a time before settling in Idaho. She graduated from Weiser High School and in 1935 she attended Links Business School in Boise. After graduating, she worked for Wenerth Feed and Seed Co., in Weiser for eight years before marrying Homer Solders (Nona's second marriage). They were united in marriage for more than 50 years.

Nona and husband, Homer, ranched and farmed together in several Idaho communities over the years including Crane Creek, Council and Shoshone. They moved to Jerome do to ill health and then retiring in the early 1980s, they returned to Payette.

She was always known as a hard worker. With all they many chores she had to do, Nona always grew a large vegetable and flower garden and kept a neat house. She was an excellent cook, with the welcome mat out for any guests at meal time. when she found herself with "extra time" she filled it with embroidery, and sewing and letter writing to her many friends and family members.

survivors include her husband Homer, who is a patient at Presbyterian Community Care Center, Ontario, Oregon; a sister Neva Valentine of Seattle, a son Donald Lee Monteith of Payette; a daughter Winifred M. Martin of Fife, Washinhton; and numerous grandchildren and great and great-great grandchildren.

she was preceded in death by her first husband, David Allen Monteith (divorced), and two sons, Clyde Allen Monteith and Walter Wayne Monteith (infant) and two brothers William Frank Wilson and Noel Avon Wilson.
