Overseer Willie Clyde Cannon, age 64, 229 East Rockhill Drive, Americus, Georgia passed Monday, March 9, 2015 at the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Albany, Georgia.
A wake service will be held on Friday, March 13, 2015 from 6:00-7:00 P.M. at the Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc., 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the Christian Outreach Center, 515 Bumphead Road, Americus, Georgia. The remains will lay in state at the church from 12:00 noon until the hour of service. Burial will follow in the Staley Memorial Cemetery, Corner of Souther Field Road and Mayo Street, Americus, Georgia.
Overseer Willie Clyde Cannon was born May 12, 1950 in Lumpkin, Stewart County, Georgia to the late Booker T. Cannon, Sr. and Carrie E. Buford Cannon Mattox. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Brooker T. Cannon, Jr., Tommie Cannon, and Johnny Cannon. He was a 1969 graduate of Lumpkin High School, Lumpkin, Georgia. He was a 1972 graduate of South Georgia Technical College with a degree in Upholstery and Interior Design.
He was also employed with Cooper Lighting of Americus, Georgia for thirty-five years and retired as a painter attendant. In 1985, he was the owner of Cannon Upholstery Shop of Americus, Georgia.
He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and joined the band of Christian believers at the Healing Temple Church of Americus, Georgia under the leadership of the late Bishop P. J. Welch and Supervisor Lillie Ruth Welch. While at Healing Temple Church, he was the Superintendent of the Sunday School Class and President of the Usher Board Ministry. His spirit began to grow in Christ and with his understanding of the word. In 1998, he was ordained as an Elder under of leadership of Bishop Robert Welch of Forsyth, Georgia. He pastored in the circuit of Thomasville, Athen and Camilla, Georgia. And in 2010 the spirit led him in the direction of leadership which flourished and matured at the Fountain Temple of Divine Faith Worship Center of Brooklyn, Georgia. By order of Prophetess Emma Jean Thomas and the congregation, he was ordained to the head office of Overseer of Holy Tabernacle Church of Deliverance of Lumpkin, Georgia.
He was united in Holy matrimony to the former Mary Ann Johnson Cannon on December 22, 1979, and their union was blessed with four sons.
He leaves a legacy of love and many fond memories to his beloved family which include a loving and devoted wife of thirty four years, Mary Ann Johnson Cannon, Americus, Georgia; four sons, Willie Tervarus Cannon (Jecqullia), Lumpkin, Georgia, Terrell Cannon, Americus, Georgia, Eric D. Cannon, Americus, Georgia, and Wesley P.
