Son of Benjamin Franklin Allender and Mary Steidinger of Allentown, PA. Benjamin was a labrorer who worked odd jobs. After Mary's death of a "convulsion" in 1906--perhaps indicating she had epilepsy--Benjamin moved in with his mother in Allentown while Steward was sent to Pennhurst in 1909. He would spend over 13 years of his life there before he died in 1923. Benjamin died a pauper in the Lehigh County home in 1947.
