Emily Caroline Carlson, the daughter of William and Vera (McKee) Stern, was born on September 30, 1930, in Taopi, MN. She grew up in Taopi, MN until her family moved to Litchfield in 1948. Emily graduated from Litchfield High School that same year. She was united in marriage to Russell Carlson on August 19, 1950 in Jeffers, Minnesota and lived in Litchfield since 1960, after residing in Willmar, MN for four years in the late 1950's. They returned to Litchfield in 1960, and she worked for a short time as a Law Secretary. The majority of her working career was at the Litchfield Clinic where she processed Insurance claims and did other bookkeeping. She also painted and hung wallpaper for many people. Emily was a member of First Lutheran Church and was a Cub Scout den mother. She played in several bridge clubs for many years. For 32 years she played golf with the same group of friends. They were a regular sight on the course on Tuesdays from spring through the fall.
She is survived by her children, Wayne, Greg, John and Dan Carlson. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, brother Donald Stern, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Russell in 2009; brothers, William Stern, Warren Stern and Verl Stern, a sister Edyth Ulrick.
