A Funeral Mass for Emma Herz, 95, of Glen Ullin, will be 10:00 a.m. CDT, Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin with Father Jeff Zwack celebrating. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Visitation for Emma will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. CDT, Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin with a rosary and vigil service being held at 6:00 p.m. CDT.

She passed away Friday, April 10, 2015 at Marian Manor in Glen Ullin.

Emma was born November 19, 1919 to Anton and Juliana (Redlar) Fibiger in Glen Ullin. She attended school in the Herz district in the St Joe area 12 miles south of Glen Ullin. Emma married John Herz on May 27, 1940. They lived and raised their children on the Herz farm near the St Joseph Catholic Church 12 miles south of Glen Ullin. In 1967 Emma and John moved in to Glen Ullin, John continued to farm along with other various jobs in Glen Ullin. Emma worked at Marian Manor Nursing Home as a cook when the nursing home opened in 1969. Later she became a cook at the Glen Ullin High School and worked there until her retirement. John passed away December 08, 1981 and Emma continued to reside in Glen Ullin until the time of her death.

Emma enjoyed many hobbies: gardening, sewing, cooking, baking, playing cards, singing and entertaining. Emma’s main enjoyment was cooking for her family, especially the “good old German dough dishes”. You never left Emma’s residence hungry. She loved being around her children and grandchildren. When everyone was together her famous remark was “these are all my family.” When you left Emma’s residence she gave everyone a hug and when you told her you loved her, her response was always “Love You More.” She was an Honorary Member of the St. Joseph’s Christian Mothers, Sacred Heart Christian Mothers, member of the St. Joseph and Sacred Heart Choirs. She was also a member of the Glen Ullin Lioness Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband John, her son Clarence, daughter-in-law Barb, grandson Kevin Herz, granddaughter Jamie Herz, great-grandson Dalen Dorval, her parents, 6 brothers and 6 sisters.

Emma’s family would like to thank the Staff at Marian Manor HealthCare Center for the many years of loving care. Emma always considered the staff at Marian Manor her second family.
