Sandra Jean Simon, 78, a longtime resident of Van Wert, died Thursday April 9, 2015, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice.
Sandy was born to the late Leonard “Tony” Rosselet and Jean Werner Rosselet on April 17, 1936. Raised mainly in Defiance, Ohio, Sandy graduated in 1954 from Defiance High School and then attended St Vincent’s School of Nursing, graduating in 1957.
Sandy was married to Walter T. “Thad” Simon on Aug. 24, 1957, until his death on October 26, 2002.
Most of her career was spent practicing at Van Wert County Hospital serving in the surgery department for 32 years, eleven of which she was the unit manager. Sandy enjoyed traveling, bowling with her daughter, Lisa, and playing cards with her friends. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be missed by many.
Sandy was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert. She was also active in philanthropic activities as a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and was a former member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses.
Sandy is survived by her children, Lisa (Tim) Ellert of Fort Wayne, IN, Renee (Jesse) Velasquez of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, and Jana (Dave) Parsons of Boise, ID; grandchildren, Nathan Ellert, Korinne Ellert, Kyle Muntzinger, Chad Muntzinger, Jared Parsons, and Hallie Parsons; and great-grandchildren, Kiedis and Tova Muntzinger. She is also survived by half siblings, Anthony ”Tony” (Jan) Rosselet of Findlay, OH, Michael Rosselet of Dayton, OH, and Cindy (Bill) Beans of Ottawa Hills, OH, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and her beloved dog, Daphne.
Visitation will be Monday, April 20, 2015, from 2 to 6 p.m. with rosary at 5:30 p.m. at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church with Father Stan Szybka officiating. Private family burial will take place at Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance.
The family would like to thank the staff at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice for all for the loving care given to Sandy at the end of her life.
Preferred memorials may be directed to Van Wert Inpatient Hospice or for masses.
