Carolyn Morton Stanley of Buchanan passed away Saturday, April 11, 2015 at her residence. She was born in Jefferson County, Alabama, July 12, 1940, daughter of the late William Dallas Morton and Elizabeth Agnes Gilbert Morton. Mrs. Stanley was a member of the Buchanan First Baptist Church and the Circle of Friends II. She loved knitting, reading and her little dog ‘Amber’ and was a wonderful cook, enjoying cooking for others. Mrs. Stanley attended Fellowship Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of twenty six years, Burwell Stanley, Jr., a sister, Martha Jo Hogeland and a sister-in-law, Janice Morton.
Survivors include her children, Richard L. and Kim Pettit of Buchanan, Lisa C and Eddie Ayers of Buchanan , Gina L. and Wade McElroy of Muscadine, AL; a proud grandmother of seven grandchildren, Todd Ayers, Trent Ayers, Cassie Pettit, Grace Pettit, all of Buchanan, Landon McElroy, Logan McElroy and Laney McElroy, of Muscadine, AL and a great grandchild due to arrive in November; brothers, Raymond L. and Judy Morton, Buchanan, William C. Morton, Johnson City, TN and a brother-in-law, Ronald A. Hogeland of Hayden, AL.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.
Services will be Tuesday, April 14 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Hightower Funeral Home with Reverend Merle Baron and Reverend David Ginn officiating. Music will be furnished by Bill Brown. Trent Ayers, Todd Ayers, Landon McElroy,, Logan McElroy, Gary Thomas and Kevin Parker will serve as pallbearers.
Interment will follow in the Edwards Cemetery in Buchanan.
