He was born in 1936 to Commander Leonard S. Moore and Louise Gay Moore in Philadelphia, PA and grew up in Columbia, SC. Dr. Moore graduated from Dreher High School and went on to study at the University of SC in Columbia, the Medical University of SC in Charleston, and later became a fellow at The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD before returning to Columbia to specialize in allergy and immunology.
Dr. Moore practiced for more than 20 years before retiring and beginning a second career as an advisor at the Southeastern Trust Company which was later acquired by BB&T. He retired from that position in the early 2000s after more than 10 years.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Moore; daughter, Eleanor Leahy; son-in-law, Norman Leahy; grandson, John Leahy; and many, many devoted friends and colleagues.
The Burial Office for Dr. Moore will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the graveside in Elmwood Cemetery, 502 Elmwood Avenue, Columbia, SC with The Rt. Rev. Paul C. Hewett and The Rev. Fred A. Sterne officiating. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel is assisting the family.
