Russell W. "Red" Stafford

Russell W. "Red" Stafford, 70, of 526 Stelton Road, Xenia, passed away at 7:09 a.m. Tuesday after a short stay at Greene Memorial Hospital. He was born in Xenia on May 11, 1922, tha son of Ambrose and Lillian (Foley) Stafford. He was a 1940 graduate of Xenia Central High School, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II who served in the South Pacific. Red retired from General Motors after 30 years of sevice. He was a member of the VFW Post #2402, the Elks CPOE #668, AMVETS and the Loyal Order of Moose.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Clarice M. Lyons; brothers Alfred and William Henry; sisters, Theresa Brumfiel, Ruth Arthur and Mildred Jenkins; and a stepson Lloyd D. Conn.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel (Turner) Cooper Stafford; a sister, Lorraine (Stafford) Allen of Xenia; stepsons and their wives, Wendall J. and Nancy Lyons of California, Xenia Police Chief Claude N. and Dede Lyons, Daniel L. and Pat Lyons of Jamestown; Teddy D. and Rebecca Cooper of Florida, and Gary E. and Kimberly Taylor of Xenia; stepdaughters and their husbands, Juanita and Richard Lewis of Kentucky and Ruby and John Keogh of Fairborn; nephews and their wives, Charles R. and Sue Allen of Xenia and Gary and Teresa Allen of Xenia; 21 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at McColaugh Funeral Home, 826 N. Detroit St. with the Rev. Ron Swiger of First Assembly
