Mrs. Annie Susan O'Neal Bowman, 83, of 2135 Ararat Road, Ararat, passed away Saturday evening, April 11, 2015, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Bowman was born July 22, 1931, in Surry County, one of eight children born to the late Oscar Lee and Alice Elizabeth Gillespie O'Neal. Annie worked at Lynne Hosiery and Quality Mills for many years and was a member of White Plains Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert Cecil Bowman, Jr. and Diane Bowman of Mount Airy and Michael O'Neal Bowman of the home; two grandchildren and their spouses, Robert J. "Robbie" and Kim Bowman of Pinnacle and Kayla and Wesley Tucker of Ararat; three great-grandchildren, Jacob Bowman, Madison Bowman, and McKenzie Tucker; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mozelle Harrell and Jackie and Fox Atkins, all of Ararat; and special friends, Jim and Loraine Patrick and Lilla Belle Spencer. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bowman was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Cecil "Red" Bowman, Sr.; an infant son, James Lee Bowman; two sisters, Roxie Chilton and Evelyn East; and three brothers, Clinton O'Neal, Bobby O'Neal, and Glenn O'Neal. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at 11:00 AM at White Plains Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Tucker, the Rev. Larry Norman, the Rev. Bill Tucker, and the Rev. Tom Delph officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at White Plains Baptist Church. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Bowman family.
