Ida Louis Steed was born January 13, 1876 in Center Township, the daughter of John and Mary Schuetz Reich, and departed this life on September 27, 1952, at the home of her nephew, Lawrence Landefeld. She was seventy-six years, eight months and fourteen days old when God called her for His own.
On April 23, 1876 she was baptized and later in confirmation renewed her baptismal vow to become a life long member of St. Peter’s Evangelical and Reformed Church of Miltonsburg. She was united in marriage on October 9, 1912 to William T. Steed of near Boston, Ohio, where they lived together on a farm until her husband’s death on January 10, 1932. The remaining years were spent at Miltonsburg. Through marriage she became a mother of two of his children, whom she loved as her very own. These children are Mrs. Walter Bartenschlag of near Lewisville and Mr. Lenza Steed, of Barnesville.
She was a member of a large family, having six sisters and one brother. Four sisters and the one brother preceded her in death. They were Florence Smith, Ella Reich, Freda Landefeld, Cora Landefeld and Ed Reich. The two surviving sisters are Mrs. Lillian E. Hingel, of Bridgeport, and Mrs. Frank Bartsch, near Miltonsburg. Besides these sisters there are five step-grandchildren and four nieces and eight nephews. With these relatives and many friends she leaves the memory of many visits and happy hours of conversation and work which she shared with them.
It will always be a joy to remember her, as she was devoted to her relatives and friends, as she shared their troubles and always had an abiding hope and faith that all would work together for good. She will be remembered for the joy she found in working in her garden and home. As she toiled in the soil she found strength and companionship with her creator. “Now God her father has said, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter into the new joy of eternity.”
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock at St. Peter’s Evangelical and Reformed Church, Miltonsburg, with Rev. George W. Varnes officiating.
Interment was in the Miltonsburg cemetery.
