Kevin Larson, 53, of Mankato, Minnesota and formerly of Hallock, passed away at St. Mary’s Campus Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota on Saturday, March 28th, 2015. Kevin Joe Larson was born January 6, 1962 at Hallock, Minnesota to Walter “Swede” and Leona (Anderson) Larson. Swede and Leona drove through a snowstorm from Pembina to the hospital for Kevin’s birth. Kevin grew up in Hallock and graduated from Hallock High School. He went on to attend Bemidji State University, Thief River Falls and Wadena Vocational Technical Institute where he graduated with an electrical lineman diploma in 1986. He started work for Otter Tail Power Company in 1989 and continued working there until he was put on disability in April of 2006 due to complications from brain cancer. On July 11, 1992 Kevin married Dawn Austin in Barnesville, Minnesota. They were married just short of 13 years. In those years they had three children, Austin Joe Larson, Tristan Michael Larson and Madisson Michelle Larson. They divorced in 2005. Kevin married Melissa Tolman on August 30, 2006. Melissa has a daughter from a previous marriage, Brianna Jean Tolman. Kevin and Melissa have a son, Oscar Dean Larson. Kevin, Melissa and family lived in Bemidji until 2010 and then moved to Hallock where they lived for three years. Melissa, Kevin and Oscar moved to Mankato in August of 2013 due to medical reasons regarding Kevin’s brain tumor. In January 2014 Kevin’s second brain surgery left him partially paralyzed on his left side. He passed away on March 28, 2015. Kevin enjoyed being at the hunting shack, fishing, working on cars, talking with people, putzing in the garage and more than anything else, being with his kids. Kevin was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Melissa; children, Austin, Tristan, Madisson, Brianna and Oscar; brothers and sisters, Michael (Deb) Larson, Warroad, MN, Patricia (Ron) Sugden, Battle Lake, MN and Craig (Jody) Larson, Bemidji, MN; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, April 10th, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Grace Lutheran Church, Hallock. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock. Visitation will be held at the Austin Funeral Home in Hallock on Thursday, April 9th, from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
