James William "Jim" Busby, 98, of Dodge Center, passed away at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield on April 10, 2015.
Jim was born on March 7, 1917, in Walnut Grove, IL the son of James C. and Alice M. (Lawson) Busby. He attended school in the Fort Madison, IA area. On March 22 1941, he was united in marriage to Olevia Sue "Lee" Varner, in Kahoka, MO. On November 4, 1942, he entered into the U.S. Army and served under General Patton and fought in the Battle of Bastogne. He was honorably discharged on November 23, 1945. Jim began his farming career in Aledo, IL., and moved to Dodge County, MN where he continued to farm. In retirement Jim drove semi truck, and also helped his wife at the In Town Floral and Greenhouse. He enjoyed square dancing, bird watching, bowling, and the MN Twins. Jim's passion was to have cattle in his pastures.
Jim is survived by his children; Carolyn Mackey, Danville, IA; Elaine Crandall, Las Vegas, NV; Joanne (Charles) Staub, West Concord, MN; William Busby, Kasson, MN; John Busby, Medford, MN; Linda (Robert) Beach, Dodge Center, MN; Janet Busby, Dodge Center, MN; 17 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Lee who died on July 20, 2014; one grandson, Jamie Busby; sons-in-law, Patrick Mackey and George Crandall; sisters, Blanche James, Hazel Gunn and Ruby Van Dorin.
The funeral service for Jim Busby will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at the United Methodist Church, 20 1st Street NE, Dodge Center, MN with Reverend Dave Westlake officiating. The burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery in Wasioja, MN. The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, April 13, 2015, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 25 South Street SW in Dodge Center, MN and one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.
