JESSE EARL HERNDON

OKOLONA – Jesse Earl Herndon, 84, died Friday, April 10, 2015, at North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit. Jesse was born on Jan. 13, 1931, in Chickasaw County and lived there all his life. He was the owner of Lonesome Dove Ranch where he raised cattle and horses. Jesse loved the land and was closely attached to it. He was a master farrier known for his precision and skill. He loved the land and its produce, entertaining children, collecting and showing exotic animals and being surrounded by his family and friends. A devout Christian man, he loved the church, having spent many years at the First Baptist Church in Okolona. At his death, he was a member at the Union Chapel Baptist Church near his ranch, where he was active including serving as a deacon. A good, solid citizen, Jesse was a great steward of the land and a respecter of all God's creation.

A service celebrating his life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 12, 2015, at the Union Chapel Baptist Church with Bro. Greg Herndon officiating. Private burial will follow in the Herndon family plot at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Pontotoc County. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time Sunday only at the Union Chapel Baptist Church, located at 147 CR 54, Okolona, MS 38860. Holland Funeral Directors, Okolona Chapel is entrusted with assisting the family.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Ritchey Egloff Herndon, whom he married Feb. 14, 1974; four children, Dr. Ron Herndon (Linda) and Rod Herndon, all of Okolona; Tammy Bedi (Ken) of Brandon, and Joseph Egloff (Dr. Rana) of Macon, Ga.; his brother, Lawrence Herndon of California; his grandchildren, Lee Herndon (Dawn) of Okolona, Hannah Henry (Shane) of Okolona, Richard Bedi (Sarah) of Brandon, Joshua Bedi of Mississippi State University, Magdalene Bedi of American University in Washington D.C., Damni Bedi of Brandon, Brad Herndon (Melissa) of Saltillo and Leslie Singley (Dr. Patrick) of Columbus; seven great-grandchildren, Abbie, Jesse Kate, Eli, Ethan, Kahlan, Hunter and Cheyenne; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Loverne Brewer; and two brothers, Johnny Ray Herndon and William Inmon Herndon.

Pallbearers will be Ron Herndon, Rod Herndon, Lee Herndon, Brad Herndon, Joseph Egloff, Mack Simmons and Shane Henry. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and neighbors in three counties where he was known for his horseshoeing skills.
