Robert H. Allison was the son of John and Emma V. (Elifritz) Allison. He attended the public schools in Ohio and Pennsylvania, later working in a coal mine in PA. Here he was injured in a mining accident which led him to refocus his life on a higher education. After completing his junior college work at Blackburn College in Carlinville, IL., he went to Illinois Wesleyan University at Bloomington, IL from which he graduated with BA and LLD degrees in 1923. He united in marriage to Miss Kittie Lucile Meldrum on July 4, 1924, in Carrollton, IL. Two children of this union are Nita Mae (1925) and Robert Howard (1926). He was a member of the Tazewell County Bar Association, and the Illinois State Bar Association.
