Melvin Joseph "Mel" Clark, of Midland, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2004.


He was born November 28, 1924 to Melvin Eugene Clark and Lillian Marie Boyd Clark in St. Paul, Minnesota and was reared and educated there, graduating from Warren G. Harding High School. He married Hazel Lucille Helton on April 15, 1944. Prior to his retirement in 1979, M.J. had worked for a number of companies that included, Wallace Theaters from 1944 to 1953; telephone company in Hobbs, New Mexico from 1953 until 1957; owned 2 Way Radio Shop in Hobbs, New Mexico from 1957 until 1961; was with Southwest Communications in Roswell and Carlsbad, New Mexico from 1961 until 1962; El Paso Products in Odessa from 1962 until 1964; El Paso Natural Gas Company in Jal, New Mexico and Midkiff, Texas from 1964 until his retirement. He had moved to Midland in 1974. M.J. volunteered with Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts and was an Amateur Ham Radio Operator call number W5UWQ from 1952 until 2004.


He was preceded in death by his wife in 1999 and his parents.


M. J. is survived by his daughter, Jo Ann Clark of Midland, TX; son, Mike Clark and his wife, Vikki, of Crosby, TX; grandsons, Christopher and Jeremy Clark of Crosby, TX; granddaughter, Lindsay Clark of Crosby, TX; sister, Loretta Glende of Brainerd, MN; three nephews.


Graveside services have been scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at Resthaven Memorial Park-North with Chaplain Gail Wilson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
