Funeral services for John Howard Connally, 83-year-old former Windom resident were held Friday morning, 10 o'clock, at the Windom Methodist Church following his death Wednesday, Aug. 30, 1972, in a Groves, Tex., hospital. Officiating at the services was Mr. Connally's nephew, the Rev. Walter Whitley Connally, Jr., of Yoakum, assisted by the Rev. David Griffin, former pastor of the Windom Methodist Church. Burial was in the Windom Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Leeman Riddles, Choice Moore, Everette Cappleman, Ralph Laycock, Haise Cunningham and Arthur Self.

Mr. Connally, the oldest child of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Price Connally, was born Nov. 26, 1888, in Silver Run, Ala.

The family came to Texas in 1892 and farmed the land of the late Maj. James Donaldson.

He was a graduate of the Windom high school and the Metropolitan Business College of Dallas.

On Dec. 24, 1910, he was married to Myrtle Marie Isham, the only child of E. F. and Julia Isham of near Dodd City and Lannius.

Two daughters and three sons were born to them, Linna Lucille, Helen Louise (deceased), John Lee and twins Charles Howard and Howell Wayne.

Mr. Connally was a member of the Methodist church and for years was superintendent of the Windom Methodist Sunday school. He was active in the district Epworth League.

He was a faithful Windom reporter for the Honey Grove Signal and for 21 years he worked for W. H. Dowlen & Son of Windom.

His last 25 years of work were in various hotels in Dallas as a clerk and bookkeeper.

In May 1963, he had a stroke and was brought by his sister, Lucy Belle, to her home in Woodville, Tex. In June 1963 he entered the Cresthaven Nursing home near his brother, Tom, at Port Arthur where he received care for nine years.

He became ill Tuesday night and was taken to the hospital where he died the following afternoon.

Survivors are one daughter; three sons, one sister; three brothers, Charles of Ada, Okla., Thomas of Port Arthur and Walter of Palestine, one grandson and seven granddaughters.
