Philip George Haas, 82, passed away peacefully under the loving care of his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Doug Baril in Townsend on Wednesday, February 8, 2012. Born in Kaukauna on December 5, 1929, he was the son of the late Edmund and Charlotte (Davis) Haas. Phil married the former Dolores Ann Buechler of Kimberly who preceded him in death in 2003. He later married Nancy Schrantz of Appleton. Phil was a graduate of Kauakauna High School and Lawrence University in Appleton where he was known to many for his athletic skills in football,baseball, basketball, track and boxing. After graduating from college, Phil served in the US Marine Corp. for 3 years during the Korean War. Upon his return home, he became the 3rd generation proprietor of Haas Hardware Company in Kaukauna, retiring in 1987 after more than 30 years. Phil was active in the Kaukauna Elks and Lions Clubs, and was an avid hunter, fisherman and sports
enthusiast.
Phil is survived by his eight children: Tom (Glenna) of Whitefish Bay, Susan Mishler of White Bear Lake, MN, Fred of Franklin, Linda (Doug) Baril of Townsend, Lisa (Steve) Lemhouse of Bonduel, Julie (Steven) Myers of Eagan, MN,
Sara (Craig) Kosnicki of Shawano, and Jim (Sandi) of Loveland, OH; as well as 19 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Phil is further survived by a cousin,
George (Padge) Haas; several nieces and nephews including, Mary Ellen Hall, Mark Payne, David Payne; and his former wife, Nancy Haas.
Phil was preceded in death by his grandson Steven Haas; his parents; brother, David; sister and brother-in-law, Marylou and Rod Payne; son-in-law, Joseph Mishler; and his first wife, Dolores.
A memorial gathering will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Marty Black officiating. Visitation will held at the funeral home on Saturday from 12 noon until the time of the service.
