Charles was born in Neibert, West Virginia, raised and educated there. He had lived in Kingston for the past eight years and previously in Spring Hill, Florida, Weymouth and Braintree. He enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of seventeen and served during the Korean War. In 1959, he entered the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam era, and achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer before retiring on August 1, 1980, after thirty years of combined service.
Following retirement, Charles worked as a welder at the former Fore River Shipyard in Quincy for several years and later obtained a real estate license. He enjoyed gardening and was devoted to his family, especially to his three cherished grandchildren. Beloved husband for fifty-two years of Dorothy J. (Padula) Burress, he was the devoted father of Joann Sullivan of Rockland, Charles J. Burress and his wife Doretta of Rockland, Todd E. Burress and his fiancee Cheryl Hennebury of Holbrook; loving grandfather of Amanda Sullivan, Kenny Sullivan and Andrew Burress.
One of nine siblings, he was brother of Maggie Scholettle, Betty Alcorn both of Ohio, Donald Burress of West Virginia, Joseph Burress of PA and Glenn Burress of Ohio and predeceased by Helen Hamilton, James Burress and Sue Larson. Charles is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Interment with military honors at Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree.
