Rogersville - James W. Bruner, age 86, died Friday, May 8, 1998, at Church Hill Health Care & Rehab Center.

He was a retired farmer and of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Robertle Smith Bruner; a daughter, Christine Gay Bruner; a grandson, George Anthony "Tony" Goins; parents, Benjamin Harrison and Sally Overbay Bruner; a sister, Daisy Huckleby; and three brothers, Frank Bruner, Cecil Bruner, and Francis Bruner.

He is survived by a daughter, Joyce Goins, Rogersville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Carl Houston and Ollie Bruner, Church Hill, Jimmy Rogers and Lena Bruner, and Delbert Dee and Wanda Bruner, all of Rogersville; a brother, Jessie Bruner, Church Hill; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; special friends and neigbors, Bobby and Virginia File, Rogersville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 11, 1998 at Broome Funeral Home Chapel, Rogersville, with Rev. James (Bob) Laney officiating. Graveside services were held Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at Hawkins County Memorial Gardens, Rogersville.
