He was the son of the late Eddie Carl and Elizabeth Viva Dunn Slay and the widower of Thelma Jean Brown Slay In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Tommy, Jack, James, and O’Neal Slay; and five sisters, Nell and Ruth Seymore, Alice Paul, Beulah Fowler, and Virginia Overstreet.

Monroe retired from G & M Mechanical.

He was of the Baptist faith.
