CIVIL WAR VETERAN DIES AT SANTA CLARA
A.J. Haynes, one of the earliest of pioneers in this valley, died last night at his residence after a short illness. Mr. Haynes was a native of Maine and came to this state in 1876. After spending a few years in Monterey, he came to Santa Clara and resided there ever since.
He was a veteran of the Civil War and a member of the Seventh Maine infantry. He is survived by his wife, a daughter and two sons. He was 71 years of age. The funeral will be held from the family residence 1325 Franklin street and the interment will take place at Santa Clara, on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased was a member of the Friendship Lodge F. and A.M. 210 under which auspices the funeral arrangements will be conducted. As a resident of Santa Clara, Mr. Haynes was held in the highest esteem and deep regret is expressed at his passing.
