Jimmy was born Oct. 6, 1937, in Glendale, Ariz., to Homer and Alene Boyd and raised in Tolleson, Ariz., where he graduated from high school. He died March 5, 2015, in North Bend.
In the late '50s he came to Oregon, where he met and married Beverly Schrader. They made their first home in Tolleson, but soon settled in North Bend, where they raised their four children and grandson. Jimmy loved his children and cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His passion in life was for those little bitty kids.
Jimmy was a hard worker at home and at the Georgia-Pacific mill until its closure. He then put his hands to work as a baker at Safeway until his retirement. In February 2013, JImmy accepted Jesus as his Lord and savior followed by becoming an active and inspiring church member of the Coquille Bible Baptist Church. He would come and worship as often as he was able. He always said he would "sing in that choir if my old body could stand that long," and "It's all according to what God wants - you better get to know him." Jimmy stood strong with the Lord fighting multiple medical problems, up to the end of his life on this earth. On the day, as he lay with his eyes closed, a look of peace blanketed his face, as his pastor, along with his brother in Christ, son-in-law and daughter sang his favorite hymns. Jimmy softly moved his lips, singing as he stepped into eternity with his Lord Jesus.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly of North Bend; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Bob Hughes of Coquille; daughter, Polly Latta of North Bend; sister, Joyce Lee of California; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Truman; and his son, Kirby.
Contributions may be made to the South Coast Hospice, 1620 Thompson Road, Coos Bay, OR 97420.
