William Tyler Smith went to heaven at age 101.

Born in Rives, Tennessee, Tyler and his family moved to San Antonio, Texas when he was eight.

He attended Hot Wells School and left during the Great Depression, to pursue a musical career on the eastern seaboard.

At 28, he returned to Texas, joined the Civil Air Patrol, opened a radio shop and worked over 30 years for Civil Service at Kelly Air Force Base.

In 1945 he married Martha Almina Stevenson at Crestholme Presbyterian Church. Together, they built their home and raised six children.

Tyler was an accomplished singer, musician, electrical/mechanical engineer, pilot and inventor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister, Joel and Robert Smith and Leroy Furr, and three of his children, Linda Hall, Loretta Howard and Joel Smith.

He is survived by his brother, James Smith, children: Marian Cobb, Lee (Leroy) Burks and Calvin Smith, 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
