He was the son of Jakob and Margaretha (Brengel) Trachsel who's children were born at Lenk, a village near Adelboden, in Canton Berne, Switzerland. Jakob and Margareth (Brengel) Trachsel died at Wolfersheim in the Saar area of southwest Germany in 1721.

He married 2nd to (Catherine) Maria Magdalena (Schreiber). (Catherine) Maria Magdalena and Peter are buried at Tom's Creek Church. (John) Peter Troxell (1719-1799) had at least 11 children.

Johan Peter Trachsel (this memorial) was born in Lenk, Canton of Bern, Switzerland. He emigrated to Pennsylvania on the ship "Samuel" with his wife Juliana Catharina and two sons, Peter, aged 9, and Daniel, aged 7. They arrived in Philadelphia August 17, 1733. He settled at Egypt, Whitehall Township, Bucks County (now Lehigh), where his son David was baptized on September 23, 1734. On November 10, 1743, he purchased from Caspar Wistar two tracts of one hundred acres each along the Jordan River, for which a bill of sale had been made in 1742. Here he built a stone house, 35 by 25 feet, and 2 and a half stories high, in the year 1744. The house is still standing and is the oldest house in Lehigh County. When the large hearth was removed in 1910, the mantelpiece was found to contain the figures 1744. The house stands near the Jordan Creek, east of Troxell's crossing, on the electric road from Allentown to Slatington. Peter Troxell mortgaged these tracts on January 12, 1754 to Lynford Lardner for 294 pounds. The house is mentioned in the mortgage and the land is described as "situated on a branch of the Lehi creek, called Indian creek". He secured additional land, in all over 500 acres. Peter Troxell deeded to his sons five tracts of land. These five tracts adjoin each other and upon them are still standing five stone houses built by members of the Troxell family.
In 1736 when his son John was baptized, he is referred to as church censor of the congregation. In 1737, he was deacon and his name appears in the Egypt Reformed Church records until 1744. After removing from Egypt he became a member of the Jordan Reformed congregation. The last known date of Peter living in the house near Troxell's Crossing was in 1754. Records indicate that soon after this, he moved to Frederick County, Maryland, where he died in April or May of 1766 at the age of 75 years. His oldest son, Peter, assumed the mortgage on the old home and lived there for a number of years. It appears that with the exception of Peter Jr., and Daniel, all of Peter's children moved to Maryland with him.

The will of Peter, in Liber A., No. 1, pp. 213-214 of Frederick County, Md., was made 16 April 1766. It named Juliana Catherine (his wife) and she was bequeathed "her thirds of my movable estate." Eight children were named. In May 1766, Thomas Schley made oath that he had translated Peter's will into English. Most certainly, he died sometime in late April or early may, but the exact date is unknown.
