Edgar Cornell "Pete" Thomas, 85, passed away quietly April 7, 2015. He was born May 10, 1929, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Edgar and Jane Thomas. Pete graduated from Lansdown High School, the United States Military Academy, and earned his Master's Degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University. He spent nine years in the Army and worked for the Boeing Company for 27 years. Pete married his devoted wife, Betty, 63 years ago in New York City at the Little Church Around the Corner. They had three children, Peter Thomas (deceased), Mark Thomas, and Michele Thomas Van Wyk. Pete and Betty retired to Citrus Hills 27 years ago to escape the Seattle rain.
An avid golfer, Pete was very proud to "shoot his age" a few years ago. Pete was also a keen student of military history, volunteered as a tutor at the local elementary school, and one of the first members of the Citrus Hills Chorus. He was a faithful member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and sang in the choir.
Pete is survived by his loving wife, Betty; two children; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the SOS Food Bank, 439 E. Norvell Bryant Highway, Hernando, FL 34442.
Funeral services for Mr. Thomas will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 11, 2015, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Hernando. Pastor Kenneth Blyth will preside. Interment will be at Florida National Cemetery at a later date. - Chronicleonline.com
