Came to Charlotte, Maine as a teenager with his parents, John and Sarah Ferris and siblings, William, Daniel, Mary and Nancy, in 1820 from Lisburn, Ireland. Married Dianna Zelma in Charlotte, Maine and they had 12 children, but only 3 lived to adulthood. He left his wife in 1864 and lived with his son, Thomas Coke Ferris and his daughter-in-law, Martha J. (Moulton) Ferris in Somerville, Mass. He was a trained carpenter most of his life. He died in Somerville, Mass in the home of his widowed daughter-in-law.
