Burial will follow at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Mrs. Phipps passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, in Tyler under the care of Hospice of East Texas.
She was born March 8, 1929, in Oak Grove, La., to Wesley Benjamin and Bettie Hampton Lilly.
Chris was a member of Lanes Chapel United Methodist Church where she loved serving in her Sunday school class. After graduating from Baylor University, she taught many years at Dixie Elementary. She loved to play bridge, spend time on the beach, and was a former member of Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma and a lifetime member of PTA.
Chris was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Jack, Jr.; and brother, W.B. Lilly. She is survived by her loving family including her husband of 56 years, Jack Phipps of Tyler; daughters, Linda Rose and husband Steve of Cypress and Jane Todd and husband David of Abilene; brother, Joe Lilly of Lake Village, Ark.; sister-in-law, Betty Jo Lilly of Eudora, Ark.; grandchildren, Trey Todd and wife Casey of Plano and Jackie Voller and husband Tyler of Lubbock.
Pallbearers will be Joe Humphries, David Todd, Steve Rose, Trey Todd, Tyler Voller and Cliff Dunlop.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, March 5, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, Tyler, 75703.
