Funeral services for Jack Gentry, 82, of Cookeville will be held Sunday, April 12 at Poplar Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Nolan Cantrell, Donnie Jones and John Gentry officiating. Interment will follow in Gentry Cemetery.

Mr. Gentry passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Bethesda Health Care Center.

He was born February 5, 1933 in Putnam County, TN to the late Alphus and Pearl Ann Randolph Gentry.

Mr. Gentry served in the U.S. Navy. He was an ordained deacon and later became an ordained minister. He drove a school bus from 1967 to 1983, and worked for the Putnam County Fire Department from 1978 to 1995 where he retired as chief. Mr. Gentry received the Jaycees Humanitarian Award in 1983. He was loved by his family and many friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Elizabeth Gentry and a brother-in-law, Glenn Halfacre.

Mr. Gentry is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara J. Bryant Gentry of Cookeville (whom he married July 19, 1952);
two sons and daughters-in-law, David E. and Gail Gentry of Cookeville, John W. and Renee Gentry of Lebanon, TN, and
one daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Skip Asher of Cookeville; four grandchildren, William Gentry, Jackie Wright, Tyler Asher and wife Candace, and Kevin Asher;
six great grandchildren, Elodie, Michael, Danielle, Calleigh and Lillian and baby Asher;
one brother, Allon Gentry and wife Anita of Valrico, FL; and
one sister, Barbara Halfacre of Cookeville.

Pallbearers will be deacons and the Putnam County Fire Department will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to the Putnam County Fire Department, 700 County Services Dr., Cookeville, TN 37501.
