NORMAL — Andrew Cain Butler, 40, of Normal, died at 4:15 a.m. Tuesday (April 7, 2015) in Bloomington. He was among the seven passengers killed in a Cessna 414 flying back to Illinois State when the aircraft crashed overnight just two miles east of Central Illinois Regional Airport in Bloomington, Illinois. The plane was flying from Indianapolis, Indiana, where they all had attended the 2015 National Championship Game at Lucas Oil Stadium.

A memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Church of Merna, Bloomington, with Monsignor Gregory Ketcham officiating. A memorial visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington. Cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Illinois State Athletics, Weisbecker Scholarship Fund, or show your support for Redbird Athletics by attending an event.

He was born May 20, 1974, in Urbana, son of Donald and Sheila Butler.

Surviving are fiancée, Jamie Fox, Normal; parents, Donald Francis Butler and Sheila Butler, both from Savoy; sisters, Colleen Butler (Kevin) McPherson, Marlborough, Mass., and Shelly Butler (John) Schaefer, Monticello; brother, David (Lauretta) Butler, Altamonte Springs, Fla.; nieces and nephews, Caitlin and Alyssa Butler, Erin and Megan McPherson, Kathryn Schaefer, Cole and Maddie Gentsch; Jamie's parents, Robert and Nancy Fox, Saunemin; and Jamie's siblings, Jude and Kelly Gentsch and Dan and Val Fox, all of Normal.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his nephew, Sam Butler; and his beloved dog, Boomer.

Andy had a successful career as a sales manager for Sprint Nextel, where he has worked for almost 13 years. He was recently promoted to a national account manager, serving large clients like State Farm Insurance Cos., County Financial and ADM. He had a natural flair for sales and genuinely loved his job. He enjoyed working with a large group of clients and colleagues. He was honored as a Presidential Council Winner, Top Agent for the State of Illinois and Sales Culture Award Winner.

He was very active in the Bloomington-Normal business community. He participated in BNI, McLean County Chamber of Commerce, and was a past board member of the @Midwest, a social media conference.

Andy grew up in Champaign. He attended St. Matthew’s Catholic School and Champaign Centennial High School where he was a member of the golf team. He graduated from Illinois State University with a bachelor of science in marketing in 1996.

Andy never met a stranger, always had a smile on his face and was genuinely one of the kindest, most fun-loving people you could ever meet. In his spare time, he loved traveling with Jamie and his friends and family, playing golf at Bloomington County Club, working out at CrossFit Bloomington-Normal, and spending time with friends and family. He was an aspiring runner and completed the Chicago Marathon in 2010. He was a parishioner at St. Patrick Church of Merna.

He also loved the ISU Redbirds. He served as a member of the Illinois State University Athletics Board (Weisbecker Fund), never missed a football or basketball game, and loved to support the other teams as well, especially baseball and golf. He could be found hosting a tailgate at all the home football games and encouraging everyone he could to join the fun and get involved with the university and athletic department that he loved.

Andy had a huge circle of friends. Once you were his friend, you were a friend for life. His big smile, his sense of adventure and his kind heart will be missed by many.
