Robert Patterson Lyle, 89 years old, of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2015, at 6:55 p.m. at Oschner Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents Lille Mae Lyle and William Bryan Lyle and Brother William Bryan Lyle Junior. Robert is survived by his wife Lois Lyle; son Robert Lyle, Jr.; daughters Ashley Dew and Terri Monson; daughter in law Eileen Ducote Lyle; son in law Stephen Monson; sister in law Carol Lyle Coggin; grandchildren Erin Perlmutter and husband Michael, Brittani Dew and Tommy Discon, Dexter Gary, Jordan Gary, Christian Gary, Tysen Gary, Shaun Monson and wife Wendi, Blake Monson, Chase Monson; great grandchildren Genevieve Perlmutter, Gregory Perlmutter, Gabrielle Perlmutter, Owen Discon, and Avery Monson. He was born on October 6, 1925, at 1029 North Boulevard in Baton Rouge. He graduated from Baton Rouge High and started at LSU but decided to join the U.S. Marine Corps in the fall of 1943. As he was only 16 years old, he had to get his mother's permission to enlist. He finished basic training and finished in the top of his class in communications school then was promoted to corporal. He was later assigned to the First Marine Division, trained as a forward observer and invaded the island of Pelilieu. He was injured, but later returned to invade Okinawa. He was honorably discharged in 1945, receiving several unit citation medals with two battle Bronze Stars and Purple Heart. Robert went on to complete his Bachelor's degree at LSU. Robert was involved in many civic organizations which include Kiwanis (for 39 years), Sales and Marketing Club and Tip Masters. He was also a very active member of Community Bible Church. A memorial service will be held at Community Bible Church, 8354 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, LA 70809, April 12, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Disabled American Veterans Chapter 5. P.O. Box 7454, Alexandria, LA 71301 or Kiwanis Foundation.
