Bryan James Farrell became ill eight years ago but it didn't stop him from enjoying life to the fullest. He loved playing basketball when he was able and he loved playing with children and joking around with his friends and nephews. He liked to listen to Rock and Roll music.

Always friendly with everyone, he was especially close to his uncle James High Cat Sr. Bryan fathered two children, a son Ross and a daughter, Julianna. In 2005 Bryan moved to Little Eagle with his brother Justin, then moved to back Rock Creek to stay with his uncle High Cat and family in April 2006. It was where he was making his home when he died Wednesday, May 31, 2006, from injuries received when a car near Fort Yates, N.D., struck him. He was 36 years old.

Bryan was born Feb. 13, 1970, in Fort Yates to Willard Farrell Sr. and Genevive High Cat. He had one older brother, Paul Farrell, a younger brother, Justin Farrell, and a sister, Tai Farrell. He grew up in Bullhead and attended the Bullhead Day School until the eighth grade. He attended Fort Yates High School.

Survivors are his brother Justin Farrell; uncle James High Cat Sr.; half sister, Gina (Rob) Loy of Indiana; adopted sisters, Delores Hollow, Annie Hoisington Kathleen High Cat and Veronica Iron Thunder; three special nephews, Elias High Cat, Jayden Fox and Ashton High Cat; his son, Ross Farrell; daughter, Julianna Farrell; grandfather, Paul High Elk; aunts, Fern Has Horn, Mary Ann White and Edna Steele; uncle, Daniel Has Horn; nephews, Willard Paul Farrell III; cousins, Paul Hoisington Sr., Bernard Hoisington Sr., Benny Iron Thunder, Rosie Hoisington, Brady Brown Otter, Scott Brown Otter, Clayton Brown Otter III, Terry Brown Otter, JoBeth Brown Otter, Jamie High Cat, James High Cat Jr., Kirby High Cat, Jimmie Jo High Cat, Margaret High Cat, Jenny High Cat, Eric Thunder, Kim Iron Thunder, Amanda Ulmer, Jeremy Ulmer and Shyla Ulmer; and numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.

Bryan was preceded in death by his father, Willard Farrell Sr.; mother, Genevive Farrell-High Cat; brother, Willard Farrell Jr.; sister, Tai Michelle Farrell; grandmother, Margaret Two Furs-High Cat; grandmother, Florence Farrell; and aunts, Mary Alice Brown) Otter-High Cat and Margaret Hoisington.

The funeral for Bryan will be Thursday, June 8, 11 a.m. CT, at Messiah Church in Little Eagle. The Rev. Norman Blue Coat and the Rev. Leslie Bobtail Bear will officiate. Burial will be in the Messiah Church Cemetery under the direction of Oster Funeral Home of Mobridge. There will be a prayer service starting at 7 p.m. CT at the Oster Funeral Home this evening, Wednesday.

The American Horse family will provide special music for the service.

Casketbearers will be Harold Crow Ghost, Scott Brown Otter, Wayne Bobtail Bear, Marlon Antelope, John Foster Jr., Paul Hoisington, Kirk Douglas Flying Horse and John Skinner. All his other relatives and friends will be honorary bearers.
