Professionally, Holt was a printer in D.C., and next went to work as a purchasing agent at the Cincinnati Traction Company, which his brother William headed. At age 43, he migrated to North Carolina, where he served as a purchasing agent for the city of Asheville, probably until retirement.

On 9 October 1889, Carolyn Amelia “Carrie” Meals, the daughter of Frederick and Henrietta Slentz Meals, became Holt’s bride. The couple had enjoyed 62 years of marriage until Holt died of cholycystitis and pneumonia at age 66.

The Holt Schoepfs were blessed with two children:
(1) BURTON HARRISON SCHOEPF SR. (1891-1963) sequentially worked in the retail clothing business and in hotel management. Reportedly in 1941 he was a candidate for Governor of the State of Florida. Married twice, Burton's first wife was Mary (_____). Burton Sr. and second wife Reina Taylor (1902-1976) became the parents of Burton Harrison Schoepf Jr. (b. 1936). Another son Russell Theodore Schoepf (b. ~1927) seems to have been from Reina Taylor Schoepf's first marriage and perhaps was adopted by Burton Sr.

(2) JULIA KESLEY SCHOEPF (1901-1989): Although born in Washington D.C., Julia grew up in Asheville, North Carolina. She married Louis Ford Pease Sr. (1901-1932) who was born in Georgia to James and Anna Jones Pease. The Peases had two sons: Joseph Holt Pease (b. 1928) married Nancy Lewis and was blessed with three daughters. Son Louis Ford Pease Jr. (1932-1964) married Shirley Ann Rattery (1934-1973) and became the father of two daughters and one son Lewis Ford Pease III (1957-1986).
