Born in Huntly, Scotland, to the late Alexander and Williamina (Tosh) McConnachie, Sandy emigrated, with his family, from his native Scotland to Canada at the age of ten.
A proud veteran, Sandy enlisted with the Saint John Fusiliers in September 1939, and did active service in Canada, the United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean area and Continental Europe for the duration of the war.
Following the war, Sandy married his loving wife of 58 years and they established their farm at MacDonald's Corner. Together, they lived a busy life with their Herefords, chickens, vegetables, grain and woodlot, and raising four daughters; Margaret and Bev Chown, Sussex Corner, Sandra and Jim McFarland, MacDonald's Corner, and Nancy at home. Sandy was predeceased by his daughters Sheila and Heather, sister Mary and brother Bill.
He is survived by grandchildren; Jamie (Fawn), Jeffrey (Catherine), Brian, Jennifer and Luke, great grandchildren; Lena and Gavin, brother; George and Pauline and sister-in-law; Elva McConnachie, of Cambridge-Narrows, brother-in-law; John Jordan, North Carolina, several nephews, nieces and cousins.
Sandy is resting at the First Cambridge Baptist Church Cemetary, Cambridge-Narrows, where he was an active member over the years, serving as deacon, usher, treasurer, trustee, greeter and bell-ringer.
A service, celebrating Sandy's life, was conducted by Rev. Philip Penny, followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery.
